Description |
Baule doors are decorated or carved with mythological
figures of wood nymphs, leopards, crocodiles, birds;
bowls, weapons also sometimes diviner’s gongs and
mallets with patterns and pigments, for protection and
safety as well as beauty. The doors are used to inner
rooms and are always on view; they fortunately do not
show the wear and exposure to the harsh African climate.
Also the craftsmen are not content to produce a
functional object, be it a chair, a bowl or a door, it
also has to show great artistic skill, precision and
interest. |
