Name BAULE DOOR 3
Background / Origin Baule Door 3, Ivory Coast
Description Baule doors are decorated or carved with mythological figures of wood nymphs, leopards, crocodiles, birds, bowls and weapons, sometimes diviner’s gongs mallets and patterns all for protection and beauty. The doors used to inner rooms are always on view and fortunately do not show the wear of exposure to the harsh African climate. Also the craftsmen are not content to produce a functional object, be it a chair, a bowl or a door, it also has to show great artistic skill, precision and interest.
