Name BAULE DOOR 5
Background / Origin BAULE DOOR 5, Ivory coast (2 wood nymphs)
Description Baule doors are decorated or carved with mythological figures of wood nymphs, leopards, crocodiles, birds, bowls, and weapons and sometimes diviner’s gongs, mallets and patterns all for protection. The doors used to inner rooms are always on view and fortunately do not show the wear of exposure to the harsh African climate. Also the craftsmen are not content to produce a functional object, be it a chair, a bowl or a door, it always has to show artistic skill, precision and interest.
