Welcome to the Sembach Collection
of African Art.
The Sembach is physically
located on South Africa’s magnificent Cape coast, with the Studio
in St. Francis Bay, a few miles west of Port Elizabeth, and the
Art Gallery in Hout Bay, just around Table Mountain from Cape
Town. Relatively remote from the centre of the collector’s world

The Art Gallery, founded
in 1995, specialises in contemporary art drawn from the Southern
Africa region, in particular the artistic community of the Western
Cape, many members of which are of international repute. The
gallery displays a comprehensive range of art, from paintings in
many different media to stone and bronze sculpture and ceramics,
all distinctly African.
The Studio was
established in 2003 and concentrates on photography and African
artifacts of all genres, collected from the entire sub-Saharan
region, from Mali and Ghana to Zimbabwe and South Africa. The
artifacts are of all natural materials and range from masks and
utensils to objects d’art and jewellery, both antique and modern.
African artifacts are unique in representing the various
traditions and cultures of Africa, both symbolically and
The Studio also presents

Sembach Galleries: much of that work records recent African
