Lourens Kay

I was born on the 26th of July 1973 in Pinelands, Cape Town.

I had an interest in art since my schooldays. I was often caught for drawing during class. So, in fact, my interest in art was born out of boredom – anything but to listen and concentrate when teachers taught.

I cover a big spectrum of subjects ranging from people, mainly the human form, to animals and landscapes. My preferred media are oil paint and pencil. I love contrast and experimenting with colours on the canvas – then stand back and look at the result. As I am self-taught, every painting is a lesson with the result that I probably will never stop learning.

I have taken part in several group exhibitions in the past. However, at the moment I have no real interest in exhibitions - maybe again one day!

Currently I am living in the rugged Cederberg mountains on the holiday farm, Kromrivier. The beautiful Cederberg nature is my main source of inspiration.
