Description There are many different metal covered masks that come from the associated men’s groups, Bamana (Bambara) in Mali. The groups all have their distinct markings on the masks using different metals, tin, copper and brass etc. These groups include the peoples of the Kore, Ndomo, Komo and Jo. Also, there are similar masks from the Marka, Malinke and Bozo peoples living in the same area. These interesting pieces are mainly used for meetings and council business as apposed to ceremonies and dancing, the use of metal makes many of the pieces unusually heavy.
