Description Guro art is a skillful combination of human and animal forms. The mask represents the spirit of Gu, the wife of Zambie a supernatural being. It is used and honored during sacrificial gatherings, funerals and celebrations. They honor protective spirits called zuzu. The horns on the Guro Mask represent spiritual power and can hold if hollow, or have wiped on the surface potions or medicines to protect human life. The Guro (also known as Kweni) and Yaure tribes are closely related and some scholars believe these two groups inspired the art of the Baule.
