Description |
These horizontal headdresses are worn in pairs during a
ritual dance to honour the half man half antelope
mythological figure who taught their ancestors and in
turn them – how to cultivate the soil. Also to celebrate
the union of male and female (sun and earth) with the
rain. This intended total fertilization of the crops
(sun, earth and rain) to yield a good harvest for all
their people’s survival. The fibre costume that covers
the ritual dancer’s body during a ceremony signifies the
rain. |
