Vincent Da Silva
PROFILE
as of
08 January 2009
Birth Date:
31 July 1989
Born:
Johannesburg, living in Cape Town since 1996.
Attended Somerset College High School.
Present Activities:
Studying 2nd year Architecture at Nelson Mandela
Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth.
Subject Matter:
African Wildlife but largely focused on Big Cat Species and
Domestic Oriental Cats.
New Inspiration:
Expressive and/or Powerful Wildlife of any form.
Artist Motive:
Throughout history the cat has been admired even revered by
humans. The nature of the cat needs no explanation, its feline
domineering nature has intrigued humans for centuries and as an
artist the cat is a very expressive animal and its aura offinesse
as well as its wild, cruel and powerful physical nature is what
inspired me to sculpt.
Artist Definition:
My
work is intended to promote open minded thinking, to see beyond
natural depiction and stylistic qualities. I create work as a
result of my interpretation and inspiration and not with any
intention other than my love of art. I believe myself to be a
conceptual wildlife sculptor as I create work
which echoes design and natural beauty. I believe that my art must
have no intention other than itself. I share philosophies with Sir
Francis Bacon in that ‘There is no beauty that exists that hath
not some strangeness about its proportions.’ Bronze immortalises,
it holds status and is a precious investment.
“What is real is not the external form, but the essence of things
. . . it is impossible for anyone to express anything essentially
real by imitating its exterior surface.”
I
hope that all of my works will find a place and inspire all that
see them.
